C-SPAN StudentCam 2024
For the 20th anniversary of C-SPAN’s StudentCam documentary competition, I served again as lead illustrator and graphic designer, creating a visually dynamic campaign targeting middle and high school students across the U.S. The project included a broad range of deliverables—posters, postcards, flyers, web banners, email graphics, and broadcast visuals—all anchored by an original poster design created in Photoshop and InDesign, then adapted into digital formats.
This year’s theme presented a unique challenge: it asked a two-part, open-ended question about important historical moments from the past 20 years, or potential important moments in the next 20 years. The broad nature of the prompt required me to create visuals that would resonate with students from diverse backgrounds, while avoiding unintended political bias. I carefully selected references and imagery that maintained C-SPAN’s commitment to neutrality and educational clarity.
Additionally, designing for the competition’s 20-year milestone gave the campaign a celebratory tone, which I reflected through vibrant composition and layered illustration. This project expanded my experience in concept development, message framing, and working under editorial sensitivity. The final materials were distributed nationally and used across digital and on-air channels, contributing to another strong year of student participation.
